Document restoration

Paper carries the family story too

Certificates, letters, maps, service records and newspaper clippings age faster than photographs. We scan them at high resolution and repair the damage digitally, so the words stay readable for the next generation while the fragile original is never touched again.

What we restore

Certificates & recordsBirth, marriage and death certificates, service records, land titles, school certificates. Creases flattened digitally, stains and foxing lifted, faded ink recovered.
Letters & handwritingAgeing correspondence and diaries. We preserve the hand, the ink character and the paper tone while making every word legible again.
Newspaper clippingsYellowed, brittle clippings and old photocopies. Contrast rebuilt, text sharpened, halftone photographs cleaned so they reprint clearly.
Maps & large documentsParish maps, plans and certificates too large for a normal scanner, captured in sections and digitally joined.

Pricing

The same honest structure as our photo restoration: $90 per hour, billed in 15-minute increments, with a free assessment first so you know the cost before any work begins. A single certificate or clipping typically finishes between $22.50 and $90. High-resolution scanning of undamaged documents is quoted like photo scanning.

Why it matters to us

Our family has kept its own paper for nine generations along the Windsor Road, and our grandmother wrote three volumes of published Hawkesbury family history from records exactly like these. Some of her source pages were newspaper scans that are barely readable today. Bringing documents like that back is not a sideline for us; it is the family trade.

Common questions

Do you repair the physical document?

No. Physical conservation belongs with a paper conservator. We work digitally: the original is scanned once, handled with care, and returned to you unchanged. Every repair happens on the digital copy.

Can you restore documents for family history research?

Yes, and it is a particular interest. Faded certificates and clippings that defeat OCR and tired eyes become clean, legible, printable pages. We can also assemble restored documents into an organised digital archive.

Is my document safe?

Everything is handled in person within North West Sydney. Originals are never posted, and fragile items are scanned flat without feeding through rollers.

What do I receive?

A high-resolution restored file suitable for printing and sharing, plus the untouched archival scan of the original, delivered by private secure link.
